Originally from Tlaxcala, Mexico’s smallest state, Edith received her B.S. in Clinical Biochemistry from Universidad de las Américas Puebla. She later moved to Saudi Arabia to attend King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, where she earned an M.S. in Plant Science and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering under the guidance of Prof. Magdy Mahfouz. During her graduate studies, Edith developed CRISPR-based tools for plant biotechnology, focusing on prime editing, targeted DNA integration, and molecular diagnostics. In the Demirer Lab, she explores new genome-engineering strategies for the precise and heritable insertion of large DNA sequences in rice. In her free time, Edith enjoys running and wandering through nature.
